At a glance Peaceful and secluded with stunning views Enclosed solar heated pool Local park nearby Baby pack available on request English speaking babysitting available Home cooked food available on request WIFI available on siteWhat we think... Casale Giovanni is a small cluster of 3 restored farmhouse apartments (2 of which are rented) in a lovely rural location near Perugia and Assisi. This stone farmhouse has been beautifully restored retaining many original features and has chestnut beams and terracotta floors throughout.
"Helen & Steve are fantastic hosts, and could not have been more helpful. The home cooked meals are delicious. The accommodation: clean, spacious and comfortable. The pool and grounds excellent; great to have two playgrounds and room to run around. We have had a superb time! Thank you!" – Tesselment family, June 2009There are several patios and lovely pergolas outside each apartment making it a perfect setting for privacy, but if you want to socialise this is possible too. It is located in an interesting area both for its beautiful countryside and also because of its depth of history in neighbouring village and towns. The beach at Lago Trasimeno (a local lake) is only 15 minutes away so you can let the children play in the sand whist you relax at the coffee bar on the beach.
The layout of the apartments makes it ideal for one or two families holidaying together or perhaps several generations of the same family enjoying quality time together. We think that this is a place where mums and dads can recharge their batteries and the kids will have a whale of time!
The owners, Helen and Steve, are warm and welcoming hosts and are on hand to answer questions or to provide some top tips on how to get the best out of your day. They will also guide you in your quest to learn about the region and how to make the best pizzas; the weekly pizza making evenings are a real hit with guests. Helen`s range of delicious home cooked meals allows you to decide when to have a night away from the kitchen. Alternatively, make use of their local restaurant suggestions and babysitting service to have a `grown-up` evening!

And beyond... Northen Umbria is a wonderful place to stay and bring children. Italians adore youngsters and you may even get to have a meal in peace as the owners whisk your children off to play with others or just be pampered as if they were their own. The local market town of Umbertide (10 minutes away) has many of the conveniences of a slightly larger settlement and includes a doctor, dentist, bank, cashpoint, supermarket, restaurants and a tourist information centre. Every Wednesday there is a market which sells fresh fruit and veg from the local area. Nearby Passignano, Lago Trasimeno is the place to go for a bit of gentle, family relaxation. We would highly recommend packing a picnic and your swimming costumes and preparing for a lazy morning by the lake.
The beach near the lake is a good place to take the children and the choice of restaurants with fresh fish is wonderful. Alternatively, approximately 1 ˝ hours drive away is the coast. Italian beaches tend to be very well organised (like those on the Cote d’Azure) with sunbeds, showers and cafes so they are ideal for families.
The surrounding hillside towns and villages provide plenty of parks for children to roam about in. The small town of Arrezo is well known for its Etruscan origins. It is a beautiful hilltop town and is produces some of the most beautiful gold jewelry in Italy. For a leisurely morning or afternoon’s activity you can take a stroll around the wooded hillside paths around the stone-walled terraced fields and hazelnut orchards which lead down to wild grass and flower meadows with olive, cypress and walnut trees. Alternatively if you are there in the autumn go out chestnut collecting and take them home to roast in the chestnut roaster! You may even see a wild boar roaming about or spot the deers running in the fields.
Outside of the summer months there are some wonderful traditional festas (local village fairs). During May in the nearby town of Gubbio there is the racing of the Ceri (candle) when the various quarter of the town compete to carry a wooden candle to the top of the hill. If food is the one thing that is guaranteed to get you excited where better than Umbria to indulge yourself in fantastic local produce? After the peak of the summer spend some time collecting olives and tasting the fresh oil and woodland truffles. In Perugia, mid-October is a great time for those who love Chocolate as it hosts the annual Eurochoc festival. There are events all year round that revolve around some of the most stunning produce that Italy has to offer, including wine tasting, mushroom and truffle hunting to local cooking lessons.
