This delicious farmhouse is tucked away in a beautiful rural valley and has the most fantastic sweeping views of the Sibillini Mountains and surrounding countryside. With its traditional features, countryside location and private vineyard, Casa Massignano is rural Italy at its best. The separate, self contained Little Barn provides a wonderful opportunity for you to travel alongside grandparents, or even with extra friends! Inside The main farmhouse is arranged over two floors. The ground floor is open plan with kitchen, dining and sitting room all conveniently located together and with easy access to the terrace and garden. The modern, fully equipped kitchen has an oven, fridge, dishwasher and microwave and has dining table and chairs for eight. There is a separate walk-in pantry/utility room with a washing machine and freezer off the kitchen. The comfortable living room has sofas and a TV as well as direct access through the patio doors to the covered portico terrace. The downstairs shower room with shower, loo and sink is just off the entrance hall at the foot of the stairs. Up the stairs to the first floor, there is a lovely little snug with full height windows overlooking those great views – perfect for a bit of rest and relaxation! The sofa in this area converts to a sofa bed if needed. Off the snug are two double bedrooms, one twin room and one single room, all with great views. Also on this floor is the family bathroom with shower, loo and sink. The house has plenty of traditional character, with brick floors, beamed ceilings and shutters throughout. Up a little path from the main farmhouse, there is a gorgeous little barn hidden away in the trees. Immaculately restored to the same high standards as the main house, the little house also has brick floors, beamed ceilings and shutters throughout. The little barn is totally self-contained, with a kitchen, dining and shower room on the ground floor, and a double bedroom on the first floor (Little Barn is only available in conjunction with the main house and is charged extra - please enquire for a price should you wish to book it too). The modern kitchen has hob, fridge and sink and a dining table and chairs seating four. A spiral staircase leads up to the first floor bedroom, which has direct access to the garden and pool. The little house is a perfect private space for grandparents, aunts and uncles or perhaps the teenagers of the family. Click here for more information on the Little Barn.
Parent Point: The spiral staircase and the direct access from the bedroom to the pool area mean that the little house is not ideally suited for children – we recommend that the little house be used for adult guests only. Outside Outside there are lovely lawned gardens with mature trees, shrubs and plants. The front garden has a lawned area and leads onto a wonderful little private vineyard.
At the rear of the house there is another lawned garden, leading up to the fabulous, enclosed swimming pool (7x14m). There is a paved area around the pool for sun loungers and a wooden pergola with creeping plants, providing plenty of shade near the pool. The pool has roman steps and a shallow end for tots, and there are tables and chairs under the pergola. Around the house there are acres of fields and country lanes begging to be explored, with many easy walks from the house. You may even pass the local shepherd and his sheep in the lane! Baby and Toddler Friendly! • Enclosed swimming pool • Enclosed grounds • Stairgates • Cots and cot linen • Baby monitor • Microwave • Steriliser • High chair • Booster seat • Hand blender • Baby den • Plastic plates, cups and cutlery • Potty • Changing mat • Bath toys And Beyond… Le Marche is a great holiday destination; a mosaic of ancient cities, rolling hills, dramatic mountains, hidden valleys and long, sandy beaches. The landscape ranges from undulating agricultural fields and vine clad slopes to snow-capped mountains and dramatic gorges. Casa Massignano is situated in an area of natural beauty, close to the majestic Sibillini mountain range and the Sibillini National Park, which provides the most breathtaking scenery in central Italy. The area is a walker's paradise with many mountain paths and guided walks.
Le Marche is rich in historical-artistic and cultural heritage which has been preserved and unlike its neighbours Umbria and Tuscany, is relatively undiscovered and still unspoiled by tourism. Every small hilltop village in this region has a beautiful church and a welcoming bar, and throughout summer and autumn each village has its local festa or sagra. This is a time to celebrate the year’s hard work and is usually based on produce from mushrooms, sausages, fruit, wine or chestnuts depending on the season. It is a time for eating and drinking, processions, music and dancing. The nearest village is Gualdo, 3km from Casa Massignano. It is, like many of its neighbours, perched on a hill top, at 652m. It is a small picturesque village which has a café, restaurant, bank (with ATM) and good basic shopping facilities. The parish church has some early paintings. There is a tennis club and the local restaurants are very good value. Sarnano is the nearest town, 6km away. The medieval town centre is well preserved and has steep narrow alleys. It is a spa resort, a winter skiing resort and a good base for hiking in summer. There are many good restaurants in the area, and a public painting gallery. The most extraordinary landscape is found at Castellucio, a small and remote village in the Piano Grande, high above the tree line, whose plains in early summer are ablaze with wild flowers and which, later in the year, yield the most sought after lentils. In the provincial capital of Macerata, an annual international opera festival takes place during July and August in the open air auditorium Sferesterio.
For those who want to make a serious excursion, the drive to Urbino is about two hours and worth it for the Palazzo Ducale with treasures amassed by the Duke of Montefeltro, including works by Piero della Francesca. You can also visit the National Gallery of Le Marche and Raphael’s house. You may wish to make a pilgrimage to Loreto, specifically the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Loreto. Designer Shoe and Handbag Trail Mums in need of a bit of retail therapy on their holidays will love the new Designer Shoe & Handbag Tours in the Marche region of Italy.
