What we think
Nestled within the exquisite Sibillini National Park, the Cortellucci Estate offers families travelling to this area a real taste of authentic Italian style.  The recently restored villa is steeped in history and sits on the estate of a renowned local family.  The family have restored it with love, care and attention to detail, using traditional hand painted design to give this house its individuality.  The Estate is a peaceful and relaxing place to take your family and with the breathtaking views of the hilltop village Monte San Martino in the distance and the faithful restoration work, we think that you will enjoy this property as much as we did.

Inside
The main living accommodation of the villa is accessed via external steps to the first floor.  The entrance leads straight into the dining room which is light, spacious and very attractive.  The large table can easily accommodate six plus two highchairs and provides a warm family feel. Just off of the dining area is a small, but perfectly formed kitchen, armed with all the essentials: fridge/freezer, dishwasher, hob and oven.  The small kitchen has remained in the same place that it has since the house was built.

Parent Point: The steps up to the main door are terracotta, quite steep and not gated, so care should be taken not to let little ones venture down them on their own.  This is not a problem as the front door can be closed.  The rest of the living accommodation is on one level with a secure veranda area which makes it an nice place for little ones to play.

The spacious lounge has wonderful panoramic views of the hills and villages which are simply breathtaking. When you are not too busy looking out of the window, there is a TV, DVD player and a selection of games and books. There are two large sofas, one of which is a sofa bed.

The distinctive character of the villa really comes alive within the bedrooms of the property. Each of the four bedrooms has a flower theme and is decorated accordingly.  Bedroom one or “Camera Delle Rose” is a large double bedroom that is beautifully decorated with a rose motif.  There is a grand double bed and a huge wardrobe in this room that would surely hold the luggage of your entire party!  The second bedroom, “Camera Delle Companule” is another double room which features an en-suite shower room, and is also distinctively decorated, this time with a soft blue colour like the campanula flower.  The third bedroom, “Camera Delle Viola” is a twin bedroom with a large chest of drawers for storage.  Each of the rooms is spacious, light and airy and has wonderful views over the countryside.

There is an enormous bathroom on this floor with a bath, separate shower, loo, sink and bidet.  At the end of the hallway is a set of doors that open out to a terrace, from which the view over to the hilltop village of Monte St Martino is incomparable.  A large wrought iron table and chairs here provide the perfect venue for dining outside, and a covered gazebo is erected in the summer months to give some welcome shade.  The terrace is completely fenced in by a wrought iron balustrade so no one is in danger of taking a tumble.  We would just say that children will need supervision out here, particularly if you are the parent of keen climber!

The ground floor of this property, the part of the house that would have been used for housing the animals (la stalla) is primarily used for organised functions such as family weddings or other large parties.  During your stay, this part of the house is also at your disposal and gives you access to a large, cool play room, yet another bedroom with a sofa bed (perfect if you are travelling with a couple who would prefer the odd moment of solitude) and a large, catering style kitchen.

We think that the flexibility of this house is key to its success as a house for families.  Upstairs you have all the bedroom and living accommodation on one, very manageable level yet downstairs the house has yet more rooms, including the play room, as well as the large garden and all the facilities and charm of this peaceful setting.

Outdoors
This garden is blessed with a spectacular setting.  Nestled in the hills, with picture postcard views over the hilltop village of Monte St Martino, this is definitely a place to while away the long summer days.  The enclosed garden acts as a ‘skirt’ around the house which means that there is always going to be a shady corner as well as plenty of space for your energetic children to career around.  To the back of the house, and in plain view of Monte St Martino, is the swimming pool (12m × 6m).  With its wide Roman steps and shallow end, this is clearly going to delight your children whilst you too can enjoy a dip and pleasurable time with your children all within a stunning setting.

Parent Point: The pool is unfenced so we would not recommend leaving children down in the garden by themselves.  The enclosed balcony area upstairs however provides an outdoor space where ‘normal’ levels of supervision are required.  In addition there is an (unfenced) pond with a fountain in the middle of it.

The garden also features plenty of lawn (ideal for family football), fruit trees (you may help yourself to any that tempt you), vines, and roses which are glorious and surround the pool.  The eating area on this level is covered by the shade of the vines.  There is also a very handy outdoor shower room with a loo for those desperate toddlers, and a sink for easy clean ups after swimming.  There are also a myriad of pool toys for kids and adults alike.

Parent Point: The pond is no more than 3 inches deep but none-the-less caution is clearly advised and supervision is necessary.  We feel that your children will need careful supervision in the garden but as the living accommodation is self contained and on first floor level, you can choose when your family will be upstairs and enjoying the balcony or downstairs in the garden and amend your levels of supervision accordingly.

And beyond...
The Cortellucci Estate is ideally situated for exploring Le Marche, just half an hour from the Adriatic coast and ten short minutes from the gorgeous Mont Sibillini nature reserve.  Excursions can be made to local towns for example Marcerata, home of the famous opera and to the fortress town of Ascoli Piceno with its historic centre and wonderful Piazza.  Throughout the summer there are a variety of festivals which take place in the area that the whole family can enjoy.  Ascoli Picento at the beginning of August hosts a medieval jousting tournament which is incredibly exciting and an education!
A wide choice of restaurants surround the villa some of which are within walking distance - most notably, the stunning restaurant Contrada Durano which is run by an Italian lady and her English husband.
