This is the house that the camera crew stayed in when they filmed one of their series of 'Family Getaways' for the 'This Morning' programme on ITV!

What we think…
Casa Vino, perched on the side of a hill is a great house for a family to stay and explore this lesser known corner of Italy.  Le Marche is the ‘hidden’ Italy, so this is the place to eat great food, see lovely hilltop villages, relax on the beach or simply to relax by the pool and enjoy the warmth of the sun on your skin!

The house itself is a traditional farmhouse and has many of the period details that you would expect of a house of this age.  The house, the terrace and the pool have lovely views over the hills and valleys towards the Sibillini Mountains.  Have a quick siesta in the hammock or enjoy watching your happy children splash around in the pool…this is definitely a good place to slip into a slower pace!

Bedrooms and internal space
This house has the feel of a real holiday cottage with all the excitement that comes with staying in a new and exciting place.  The house is built into the hillside so there are steps between different rooms, some of which are gated.

The front door opens into the kitchen which is simple yet well equipped.  It has an oven, fridge/freezer, microwave as well as a small kitchen table for feeding the children.

Three steps lead down from the kitchen into the dining and sitting room area.  The steps are stairgated so that little adventurers can be contained either in the kitchen or in the dining/sitting room.   The dining table seats 8 and has a small TV.  The living area at this level has some typical features including terracotta floors and exposed stone walls.  The sitting room has two leather sofas, and an amazing picture window that overlooks the pool and the views beyond.  A glass door leads out of the sitting room onto the terrace outside which has a table for 8 and is nicely shaded.

Parent Point: There are 2 steps here that cannot be gated.

4 or 5 stone stairs lead up from the sitting room to the first double bedroom.  This is a good room for a couple who are happy to share with a baby or for a set of grandparents.  This room has an en-suite shower room.

Carrying on up the stairs, there is another double bedroom with an ensuite shower room to the right which is both light and airy and has views over the trees towards the back of the house.

Parent Point: This room is ideal for a pair of adults but as it comes straight out onto a flight of stairs we would recommend that it is not used for children who need to get up in the night to go to the loo.

Up one more step with a stairgate you come to the landing where there are a further two bedrooms.  Here there is a twin which we think would be ideal for the children and/or a cot.  Across the landing is another twin bedroom which is hidden behind a wonderful old door.  You have to go down a few steps into this bedroom which is large and has lovely views over towards the valley and has an en-suite shower room.  Both of these rooms can be made up as doubles if required.

The family bathroom is also on this landing and was part of the recent renovations which means that it is both clean and bright.  It has a bath with an over bath shower.

Parent Points: a stairgate at the top of the stairs fences off the twin bedroom, the bathroom and the master bedroom.  Note there are a couple of stairs down into one bedroom.  Although upstairs windows are not chained, it is advisable to use the lockable external shutters which allow you to darken the room and also keep the windows open for ventilation in the heat of the day.

Outside
Casa Vino could be described as being ‘off the beaten track’ as it is literally nearing the end of a track, yet within a few minutes drive from the lovely hilltop town of Saint Angelo in Pontano and all the amenities that are on offer there.  The location of the Casa is quiet and peaceful, shared only by a few other houses.

The fenced garden wraps around 2 sides of the house and the flower beds are planted with lavender and other indigenous plants.  Directly in front of the house, overlooking the view is a gravelled area whilst to the side of the house there are 4 steps that lead up to a raised terrace with more garden and small (locked) outbuildings.  The swimming pool at the front of the house is fenced off and is one of the best places to take advantage of the amazing views.

Parent Point: Care would need to be taken within the swimming pool enclosure as there is not a lot of land between the edge of the pool and where the land drops away down the hillside.  Older children should be encouraged to get out of the pool on the side nearest the house.

And beyond
The local village is only 3 km away and has 3 great restaurants, a baker, butcher, small supermarket, 3 coffee bars and a fishmonger's van on Fridays.  Local activities include horse-riding, fishing and swimming in the nearby Lake Fiastra.  Golf is available less than an hour away at the championship course at Conero.

Beach and Mountain fun!
This corner of Italy provides an excellent balance of mountains and beach activities.  The Adriatic coastline is about 30 minutes away and provides extremely well managed beaches which are ideal for families.  The beaches are organised into private sections, much like you would expect to find on the Cote d’Azure in France.  This means that sunbeds, showers, toys, cafes and restaurants are all provided.  There are also enclosed play areas for the children which are within view of the restaurants – bliss!  Happy children and happy adults!  The beaches can be busy but with your holiday hideaway less than an hour away you can quickly retreat back into the mountains!

The Siblini Mountains, within view of the property offer a range of activities from light walks, serious hikes, hang-gliding, quad biking and kayaking to skiing or sledding in the winter months.  The skiing at Sassotetto is an ideal and inexpensive ‘taster’ for small children to ‘have a go’.  The nursery slopes here have a moving walkway for children to get to the top of the slope and to sled or ski down.  Ski hire and passes for a half a day in the mountains are easy to organise and inexpensive.

A trip to Italy would be incomplete without a thorough exploration of the local food and wine!  And this area is a great place to sample true Italian cooking.  In fact it is common not to have a menu at all but to choose from what is being freshly cooked that day.  The area is famous for verdicchio wine, hams, salami and truffles.  Details of the many restaurants in the area are listed in the House Information book.

Through the eyes of a child, Italy is a great place to take children.  Apart from the sheer enjoyment and excitement of being in a new place with new sights and sounds, the Italians love kids and welcome them with exuberance into restaurants, bars and cafes.  There are parks in most of the villages and even the small supermarkets in the area are reasonably stocked with a choice of nappies, wet wipes and jars of baby food (watch out for the salt content though!).  (PS.  Do try an Italian version of a hot chocolate…!)

So, in answer to the children’s cries of ‘what are we doing today Mum?’ you will have no end of things to suggest: dips in the pool, trips to the beach, walks in the mountains, out for lunch….?  What will it be?
