Sleeps no: 4 plus a cot in a twin and a double Ideal for 1 family with a non-moving baby At a Glance Local airport: Ancona 1hr 15 mins Rural with fabulous mountain views Pool Babysitting available Beach: 35 kmsWhat we think… This romantic hideaway is ideal for a couple with a non-moving baby. Its rural location and stunning views mean that this house is a complete retreat from the mayhem back home. This former ruin has been beautifully renovated within the last 2 years and has all the mod-cons, beautiful features and amazing craftsmanship which combine to make this a very special place to spend your precious holiday. Warning! This house is on 3 levels and the flight of stairs down to the kitchen on the bottom level does not have a banister and therefore cannot be gated. Furthermore, outside there are steep drops, stairs and an unenclosed pool so we do not recommend this house for families with moving babies and toddlers. Parents with older children can make a judgement for themselves about whether they would be happy to stay here. However, for those with non-movers or older children, it is just lovely! Internal space The front door leads into the living area on the middle floor of the house which has a lovely, airy sitting room. Stairs lead up to the two bedrooms from this floor and down to the kitchen. The sitting room is small and cosy and has a sofa, two wicker chairs and a woodburning stove. The exposed beams and traditional terracotta tiled ceiling give a hint of the craftsmanship that has gone into renovating this little cottage. This is just the place to cuddle up for a romantic evening once your baby is asleep! During the daytime the sun streams in through the windows and makes this such a bright sunny place to enjoy the stunning views. Upstairs from the middle floor are two gorgeous, yet simply furnished bedrooms. The master bedroom has a glass door out onto a terrace, a wrought iron double bed and the same exposed beams and terracotta tiled ceiling as downstairs. A small window overlooks the views over the valley and snow capped hills beyond. The twin bedroom has two wrought iron beds and a window from which to enjoy the views. The shower room on this level is new, bright, clean and ultimately very pleasant! A baby bath would be provided for families with a small baby. Kitchen The kitchen is at the bottom of the house and has double doors out onto a lower terrace outside. It is brand new, clean, functional and completely up to date. It has a washing machine, fridge/freezer, oven and plenty of stylish kitchen cabinets. The feature staircase in this house does mean that this room is not suitable for ‘movers and crawlers.’ Parent Points: Please read the notes about the kitchen and open tread stairs. Baby friendly! Box of toys (0-2yrs) provided High chair Cot with fitted sheets and blankets if required Baby bath and bath toys Steam steriliser available Hand held blender Plastic cups, crockery and cutlery Changing mat Baby monitor with walk about handset available Bouncy chair Bibs Non slip bath mat Note: Owing to the cost of fuel in Italy, a heating deposit of £200 will be taken prior to your holiday to cover any heating costs in the cooler months. Fuel use will be metered and the exact amount taken from your deposit. Outside This stunning setting is completely idyllic. At the end of a white road, there is no passing traffic and you are unlikely to see another person while you are there. The beauty of this cottage is that whilst it feels away from it all, it is actually only a short drive to the fabulous hilltop town of Saint Angelo in Pontano and a myriad of other equally beautiful hilltop towns. The outside area is a mixture of terraces, rough scrubland and of course the pool area. Moving children would need thorough supervision out here as there are plenty of stairs, low walls to climb on, steep edges and of course the unenclosed pool. Parents with a non-moving baby will have none of these challenges and can enjoy the views from the swing seat on the upper terrace or from the pool itself! Parent Point: Moving children will need supervision out here. And beyond The local village is only 3 km away and has 3 great restaurants, a baker, butcher, small supermarket, 3 coffee bars and a fishmonger's van on Fridays. Local activities include horse-riding, fishing and swimming in the nearby Lake Fiastra. Golf is available less than an hour away at the championship course at Conero.
Beach and Mountain fun! This corner of Italy provides an excellent balance of mountains and beach activities. The Adriatic coastline is under an hour away and provides extremely well managed beaches which are ideal for families. The beaches are organised into private sections, much like you would expect to find on the Cote d’Azure in France. This means that sunbeds, showers, toys, cafes and restaurants are all provided. There are also enclosed play areas for the children which are within view of the restaurants – bliss! Happy children and happy adults! The beaches can be busy but with your holiday hideaway less than an hour away you can quickly retreat back into the mountains! The Siblini Mountains, within view of the property, offer a range of activities from light walks, serious hikes to skiing or sledding in the winter months. The skiing at Sassotetto is an ideal and inexpensive ‘taster’ for small children to have a go. The nursery slopes here have a moving walkway for children to get to the top of the slope and to sled or ski down. Ski hire and passes for a half a day in the mountains are easy to organise and inexpensive. A trip to Italy would be incomplete without a thorough exploration of the local food and wine! And this area is a great place to sample true Italian cooking. It is common not to have a menu at all but to choose from what is being freshly cooked that day. The area is famous for verdicchio wine, hams, salami and truffles. Details of the many restaurants in the area are listed in the House Information book. Through the eyes of a child, Italy is a great place to take children. Apart from the sheer enjoyment and excitement of being in a new place with new sights and sounds, the Italians love kids and welcome them with exuberance into restaurants, bars and cafes. There are parks in most of the villages and even the small supermarkets in the area are reasonably stocked with a choice of nappies, wet wipes and jars of baby food (watch out for the salt content though!). (PS. Do try an Italian version of a hot chocolate…!) Before booking, please read about Realistic Expectations. You should also read our Terms and Conditions.
